Great venue and event ... but ...
Pauley Pavilion, a historic and beautiful college basketball arena, is one of the best in the county. It was an exciting experience to watch my alma mater (Nebraksa) women's basketball team play in the first round of the Nick Mullen tourney there. I was standing up to cheer on my team (I was in the 6th row, center) during the first few possessions of the game, but was told to sit down by an usher. I sat down for the rest of the first half to avoid causing a scene. After halftime, I noticed that many people in my section had moved or left, leaving few people behind me. Despite my team's struggle, I stayed seated for most of the game. However, we made a comeback and I stood up to cheer on my team when we were within striking distance with less than 2 minutes to go. Once again, I was asked to sit down, which frustrated me. There were vacant seats around me, so I eventually found another place to stand but felt like I was breaking a rule. When attending a sporting event, especially a tournament, people will stand up when the action is exciting. Standing up shows respect and enthusiasm for your team. If you can't respect the enthusiasm of fans, then perhaps you should stay at home on your comfy sofa to watch the game. C'mon Pauley - give us fans the chance to be fans. Don't make us sit down, especially when the game is far from a sellout. For goodness sakes, folks, this is a basketball game, with cheering, yelling, and excitement - not a symphony concert or play. Don't ruin the fun for others just because you're a couch potato.
